Italian municipalities charge a per-person, per-night tourist tax (tassa di soggiorno) collected directly by hotels.

  • Rates vary by city: Rome approx. €3–7, Florence €4–5, Venice €1–5 per person per night.
  • Usually payable in cash at check-out (some hotels accept card).
  • Children under 10–14 are often exempt, rules vary by municipality.
